Do Lectures Australia 2014
We love ideas. We love how they change things. And we love the people who have those crazy ideas and go and make them happen. Their stories need to be told. These people inspire us to go and do something amazing too.
There is nothing like The Do lectures. It is not a conference. And yet @brainpickings voted us in the top ten contemporary conferences in the world. It is not a festival. And yet The Guardian voted us in the top ten ideas festivals in the world. We are not an event. And yet the Independent newspaper put us in their top ten lectures event.
If we are hard to describe, that is not a bad thing. We are breaking new ground. And the box people want to put us in doesn’t yet exist. We are a mash-up. We take great talks, super local food, great un-signed bands (not for long), frantic to calm workshops, and bring these things together in one place.
Then we pick the most eclectic bunch of attendees and speakers we can find. And then we put you in a beautiful retreat called Payne’s Hut that will take you somewhere else altogether. (The best places do that). And then, if that wasn’t quite enough, we switch the internet off. So you begin to talk to people. Ideas need conversation. We believe mashing all this stuff up creates an eco-system for ideas where they have the best chance of being born, shared and acted upon. So what do we do? We start conversations.
Why Payne’s Hut?
We have learned the importance of place to The Do lectures. Our location’s beauty needs to remove you from your day to day. It needs to free your mind from the shackles of your everyday. Head space comes from physical space. Payne’s Hut in North East Victoria will certainly do that. The food, the wine, the beauty, the smell of gum trees that rise into the sky, the surrounding Alpine mountains, the clean air. A unique Australian setting.
We can’t wait to see you
Because The Do Lectures is a small event, the attendees are as important to the event as the speakers. We want to make sure we have a diverse collection of people who want to share their ideas and make a positive change. If you're super keen to join us at this first Australian event, and you have a story to inspire and delight, DO email Mel -- be quick; April is getting closer.
The idea is a simple one— that people who Do things can inspire the rest of us to go and Do things, too. So each year we invite a set of people down here to come and tell us what they Do.David Hieatt
