Jay Rogers is a modern day Henry Ford. He’s changing the car industry in two key ways. He has created a community company that will spark a revolution in this capital and time intensive industry. They are designed by the crowd. And secondly, Local Motors is manufacturing them in micro factories that challenge the paradigm of highly centralized manufacturing, embattled dealerships, and dispersed service locations. Instead, Local Motors will build a national network of local units each capable of manufacturing, sales, and service. The individual units will be supplied by a global “value network” of integrated suppliers of parts and sub-assemblies.
